Diary References

1874

  • April 15: Paul escapes with Lewita instead of escorting his mother to Genoa. They are seen "montant la montagne vers le casino en fiacre" (going up the mountain toward the casino in a carriage) at Monte-Carlo station.
  • April 28: Owned white dog that Paul obtained for Marie. When giving dog, tells Paul "ce n'est pas à 'votre sœur que je donne ce chien, mais à sa beauté'" (it's not to your sister I give this dog, but to her beauty). Marie calls him "ce juif" (this Jew) and notes Paul hints Lewita has "intentions." Dog previously named Monte-Carlo and Lewita, renamed Piccon.
