Identity

A young Russian man who dies in Nice on March 14, 1874 at 5 PM. Marie remembers him as good, upright, and modest.

  • March 14: Dies at 5 PM: "Pauvre Khalkionoff, aujourd'hui à cinq heures il a cessé de souffrir." Marie calls him "un si bon garçon, si bon, si droit, si modeste" (such a good boy, so good, so upright, so modest). His mother had come to Nice. Previously saved by Dr. Walitsky from similar attack, but mother chose Dr. Rehberg this time.
  • March 16: Marie's mother attends his funeral. Marie originally wrote "bienheureux" (blessed) then crossed it out before Khalkionoff's name.
