Marie Bashkirtseff
"On ne lit que ce qui existe, et moi je veux exister."
One only reads what exists, and I want to exist.
Our Mission
Marie Bashkirtseff (1858–1884) kept one of the most extraordinary diaries ever written. From age 13 until her death from tuberculosis at 25, she filled over 100 volumes with her thoughts, dreams, and observations.
She wanted desperately to be remembered — completely, as she truly was.
"Que l'on ne change rien." Let nothing be changed.
For over a century, only a censored version existed. The complete, uncensored diary was finally published in French between 1995–2005, but remains largely unknown.
We're bringing Marie's complete voice to the world — starting with translations into multiple languages, freely accessible to everyone.
"Je veux vivre, et vivre avec éclat."
I want to live, and live brilliantly.
